"Who says you have to learn the rules

before you break them."

David Carson is one of the well-known post-modernist during late 80s and early 90s through skateboarding and surfing magazines. Without design background, his rule breaking typographic treatment is very stunning unique. While losing readability, his typography communicates more, this makes a debate between practical and young designer if his typographic styles are worth to practice or not.

  1. I love that you discussed David Carson's work. He has been very influential in grunge typography since the '90s and we can even see it today. I definitely think his typographic style is worth to practice - people have been doing it for years! His work has personality and lots of emotions so it speaks to the people. People can really connect to it.
